Modeling Non-Cooperative Water Use in River Basins

چکیده

Conventional water use and management models have mostly emulated purposefully designed systems where centralized governance rule-based cooperation of agents are assumed. However, systems, whether actively governed or not, involve multiple, independent decision makers with diverse often conflicting interests. In the absence adequate institutions to effectively coordinate processes on use, users’ behaviors rather likely be non-cooperative, meaning that actions by individual users generate externalities lead sub-optimal efficiency. The objective this review is evaluate advantages disadvantages recently proposed modeling dealing non-cooperative regarding their ability realistically represent features complex hydrological socioeconomic tractability in terms tools computational For purpose, we conducted a systematic 47 studies address decentralized approaches. Even though such approach should aim model decisions find most assumed presence coordinating agency market model. It also turns out these employed solution procedure sequentially solved economic based pre-defined conditions heuristics, while only few approaches offered simultaneous algorithms. We argue cannot adequately capture trade-offs resource allocation, contrast procedures.

Water quality modelling for small river basins

Water quality modelling in small rivers is often considered unworthy from a practical and economic viewpoint. This paper shows instead that a simple model structure can be set up to describe the stationary water quality in small river basins in terms of carbon and nitrogen compounds, when the use of complex models is unfeasible. In short rivers point and nonpoint sources play a key role in shap...

The water footprint of agricultural products in European river basins

This work quantifies the agricultural water footprint (WF) of production (WFprod, agr) and consumption (WFcons, agr) and the resulting net virtual water import (netVWi, agr) of 365 European river basins for a reference period (REF, 1996–2005) and two diet scenarios (a healthy diet based upon food-based dietary guidelines (HEALTHY) and a vegetarian (VEG) diet). In addition to total (tot) amounts...

Water-Energy-Food Nexus in Large Asian River Basins

The water-energy-food nexus (“nexus”) is promoted as an approach to look at the linkages between water, energy and food. The articles of Water’s Special Issue “Water-Energy-Food Nexus in Large Asian River Basins” look at the applicability of the nexus approach in different regions and rivers basins in Asia. The articles provide practical examples of the various roles and importance of water-ene...
